Electrical/Instrumentation Technologist – St. John's, NL

Dovre Canada Limited is pleased to offer the following opportunity: Electrical/Instrumentation Technologist located in St. John’s, NL

Function

To design, program, test, repair, build, calibrate and maintain a variety of electrical instrumentation and equipment in-shop, in-field and offshore with a focus on welding machine repair and calibration (training to be provided).

Responsibilities

Panel Design, Programming & Fabrication:

  • Support the Project Engineer with technical input for designs and proposals.
  • Develop and design electrical schematics/layout drawings with AutoCAD for review and acceptance by the Project Engineer.

Field Service Calls & Installations:

  • Receive in-field job information and instructions from the General Manger and/or Project Engineer including scope, schedule and budget parameters.
  • Interface with customers to troubleshoot instruments, Instrumentation and electrical issues.
  • Perform in-field services including but not limited to, welders, construction of in-field panels, cable trays, pulling cable, mounting enclosures, field wiring, glanding, commissioning and testing.
  • Troubleshoot electrical/instrumentation systems.
  • Calibrate process instrumentation (pressure, temperature, flow, pH, gas monitors, etc.).
  • Deliver exceptional service to clients and on-site partners (General Contractors, end users).
  • Coordinate with colleagues in other engineering disciplines on multi-discipline projects.
  • Coordinate with clients, equipment vendors and contractors on projects.

Requirements

Education

  • 3 Year Technology Diploma Instrumentation/Electrical and/or relevant work experience.

Experience

  • Ability to understand and use P&ID diagrams, schematics, panel layouts and other engineering principals, standards and regulations relating to design, construction, and commissioning.
  • Demonstrated proper use and working knowledge of test and measurement equipment (DVDM’s, signal generators, HART calibrator, and other instrument/electrical calibration equipment).
  • Strong technical writing skills.

Other Considerations

  • Some ad hoc offshore as required.
  • Must be able to travel for site-based work.
  • Hold a valid Canadian driver’s license with a good driving record.
